Built-Smart for Builders
Built-Smart for Homeowners

The Built-Smart ProgramSM , a division of Bergeron Technical Services, is a code-based plan review and building inspection program for new construction and alterations to 1- and 2- Family Dwellings and Townhouses constructed in New Hampshire and Maine. The Built-Smart ProgramSM is designed to help building contractors improve the quality of their structures and to offer a better building to homeowners. A building that receives the Built-Smart CertificationSM is assured to be a code compliant, quality building that will provide peace of mind for the building contractor and homeowner alike.

To receive our Built-Smart CertificationSM your building needs to become part of the program very early in the construction process. By reviewing the plans and specifications before work begins, building code issues can be addressed on paper which saves everyone time, money and headaches. Depending on the extent of the work and on whether we are hired by the homeowner or the builder, the following services may be included in the program:

In July of 2006 the State of NH with RSA 155-A adopted the International Residential Code (IRC) 2000 edition for all new residential construction and residential remodel and renovation work. In August of 2007 this was updated to the 2006 edition of the code. In December of 2009 The NH Building Code Review Board voted to adopt the 2009 edition of the IRC effective April of 2012. There are 2 bills before the House of Representatives, at this time, that seek to block the requirement to sprinkler protect 1- and 2-Family Dwelling Units that is included in the 2009 edition of the IRC

State Law currently requires compliance with the following codes for the construction of residential buildings, building components or structures:
